I was recently having a discussion with a friend about the best gaming machines and he was persistent that laptops are no match for desktops when it comes to great gaming experience. But you cannot move around or travel with your desktop can you and well an avid gamer cannot live without having a go at his or her favorite game at least once a day so here is a list of 5 of the best gaming laptops.
Acer Aspire V3-572G-54S6
Price: Rs. 58,000 approx.
You can play majority of the games on this machine though the setting might have to be tweaked a bit. The machine comes with a Geforce GT 840M 2GB graphics card. It’s a fairly powerful machine and weighs around 5.26 pounds. The processor is Intel Core i5 4210U (Haswell) 1.7-2.7GHz Dual-Core + Hyper-Threading, 8GB RAM and the battery timing is impressive compared to other gaming laptops. The downside is the less than accurate contrast and the viewing angles. The verdict on this machine would be a 2.5 out 5.
HP Pavilion 15 – P283TX
Price: Rs. 85,000 approx.
The display on this laptop is HD and with a 1366 x 768 resolution you can play quite a few games at various settings. The Pavilion 15 comes with an Intel Core i7 5th Generation 2.4 GHz processor, 8GB RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GT 840M 2GB graphics card. With a slim chassis, crisp sounding BeatsAudio dual speakers and good battery run time, the verdict on this one is slightly better i.e. 3 out of 5.
Dell Inspiron 3542
Price: Rs. 63,000 approx.
Pretty much the same specs as the HP Pavillion, Dell Inspiron 3542 is not for the 24/7 gamer but is good enough to carry along for both gaming as well as work especially if you have to travel a lot and don’t want to lose touch with your gaming persona. Dell Inspiron 3542 is pretty much a budget gaming machine; verdict 3 out of 5.
Acer Aspire E1 572G
Price: Rs. 75,000 approx.
With an Intel Core i7-4500U chip, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, and AMD Radeon HD 8750M graphics with 2GB of dedicated DDR3 memory the Acer Aspire E1 572G is the synonym for a budget gaming laptop. Looks wise this might not be the ideal laptop but in this case looks don’t matter, all that matters is what’s inside the hood. Verdict 4.5 out of 5 especially keeping in mind the price.
Asus ROG GL551
Price: Rs. 132,000 approx.
A power packed laptop which would play any of the current titles on max settings. One wouldn’t say that the machine is a beauty but it is practical and sturdy with metal deck and palm rests comfortable for long gaming sessions. One downside to the chassis is the singular heat vent and during long gaming sessions that might be an issue. The sound on the laptop is good as you get to hear the minor sounds such as the wind blowing, footsteps or splashes clearly.

The keyboard is backlit and so is the ROG “Republic of Gamers” logo, which some perceive as ASUS trying to scream to its customers that this is a gaming machine. This is a heavy machine weighing at 6 pounds and the dimensions are 15.0 x 10 x 1.3 inches. When it comes to graphics it comes equipped with GTX 860M graphics card with 2GB of video memory.
The major downside to this laptop is its weak contrast, matt finished screen which to be honest is a disappointment. No matter how much you play around with the viewing angle the picture would still be mediocre. As with all other gaming laptops this one too is a battery guzzler. My verdict would be 4 out of 5 for ASUS GL551 as the price is quite a bit on the higher side.
Note: The local prices quoted are what I came across while researching and these might be below or above what you might get quoted in the market.
